It's my birthday as well and for 4 years I've spent a good part of it in tears for Ukraine. I pray that next year I'll be able to go and celebrate my birthday in a peaceful Ukraine when the filthy bunker midget is dead and the genocidal hordes have fled back to ruzzia.
I’m really sorry that your birthday has been overshadowed by so much grief and worry for Ukraine. It’s incredibly hard when a day that’s meant to celebrate you becomes a reminder of loss and uncertainty.
Thank you for sharing your stories. Happiest of birthdays to Polina and Dariia! 🥳 I hope they are able to celebrate another year in a happy and hopeful way!
As it so happens, my birthday is on 9/11. I don’t do much in the way of celebration but I do like to go out to a nice restaurant for supper. I didn’t celebrate it in 2001, but I have every year since then. My situation is not the same as in Ukraine, but I think all birthdays are always worth celebrating. After all, the world is a better place because you are here.
Happy birthday to everyone today; a friend of mine here in the US has her birthday in January 6th, which has a very negative connotation now — so now she celebrates her HALF birthday on July 6. Perhaps this could be adopted by Ukrainians to shift their Feb 24 birthday celebrations to August 24.
The idea of shifting February 24 birthdays to August 24 ,Ukraine’s Independence Day feels symbolic and powerful, turning a day of trauma into one of resilience and identity. Do people in your country only move the date to August 6th or do some people just celebrate next week maybe?
Always celebrate the day you were born. It doesn't need to be loud rip-roaring craziness. You are here, contributing to your and humanity's record of true history. Be well and safe ❤️
My birthday began one year with news of a horrific mass shooting. I can’t help but remember and mourn that ever since, but I’m still going to celebrate the anniversary of my incredible parents bringing me into this sometimes tragic, sometimes magical world every year.
