Putin won't help Iran because Trump is far more useful to him. And they're both going to benefit from soaring oil prices and global chaos. So will Xi (from the global instability), as he eyes invading Taiwan.
Actively coordinating. Or, rather Putin gives Trump his marching orders while doing "business" with Kushner and Witkoff. And they all give Trump some $$$ m, so he's happy.
Putin didn’t help Syria, (other than to give Assad refuge in Russia), so I don’t see him helping Iran either. Even if he wanted to, I’m not sure he has the means at this moment.
Russia will only be able to reap the benefits of the surge in oil prices if Iran is successful in keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed to all traffic for an extended period of time (i.e. several months). It is highly unlikely that Iran has the capability to do this, with or without Russian help. Higher oil prices is the only benefit Russia gets from the US-Iran War, apart from using up stocks of interceptor missiles that would otherwise have gone to Ukraine. But even before the US-Iran War the U.S. was reluctant to allow sales of PAC-3 Patriot missiles ultimately destined for Ukraine. That is the only interceptor missile capable of shooting down Russian (or Iranian) ballistic missiles with high PK (Probability of Kill).
You’re right that Russia mainly gains from higher oil prices, and a long closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran would be hard to sustain. Even brief disruptions, though, can spike prices without a total blockade. Interceptor supply issues for Ukraine also reflect production limits, not just politics.
But wouldn’t even a short disruption lift prices enough to help Russia?
Yes, any help is always welcome. But welcome doesn’t mean game-changing. If a person or entity has a continual deficit, a one-time cash injection may stave off the inevitable, but it doesn’t fix the structural deficit.
Thank you for the up close reporting on Ukraine and how the Iran war plays a role in the Russian economy. As far as weapons, Russia can't afford to give Iran weapons since Russia needs them to battle and terrorize Ukraine. Iran can't afford to give Russia weapons since they need them to battle their enemies. While Russia benefits fro higher oil prices in the short term, Iran also needs its oil revenues fpr domestic needs,so they need access to buyers Only time will tell whether Russia sees significant benefits, but they will likely have to find weaponry elsewhere than Iran. trump offers nothing but chaos and corruption and that is on full display now.
Vlad still had his plas in China and north Korea, but both countries may want to stockpile instead of sending what surplus they have to Russia. The collapse of the issuance economy would be the best case, but high oil prices help Russia avoid that fora little longer. Crazy times with no clear answers. Standard trump incompetence and foolishness.

Thank you for your comment!! Do you think they're actively coordinating, or just separately taking advantage of the same instability?

Glad to have you back reporting on the war in Ukraine
Bush the lesser saved Putin from bankruptcy with his 2003 invasion of Iraq. Now Putin's US viceroy is repeating that ploy by invading Iran.

Putin, Trump and Bibi all strive in chaos and destructions.

Thank you for your comment. If Iran can’t reliably arm Russia, where do you think Moscow would most likely turn next for military resupply?
