It is so sad that the great people of Ukraine have to endure such hardships. The war that Russia started should have ended with the combined efforts of the western nations supplying them with the weapons they need. I am ashamed the USA has not done more to help Ukraine. The regime in DC purposefully makes life harder for Ukrainians because of Trump's love of Putin.
Thank you for this. I think direct help like air defense, ammo and energy equipment works much better than sanctions. Churchill was quoted as saying "Americans will always do the right thing - after they’ve exhausted all other alternatives"...
Yes, we all remember his "I'll end this war in 24 hours" very well. He overpromised and underdelivered. But I have no doubt Donald Trump wants this war to end, but there's only one person who can end it.
Thank you Marie -- if you're thinking about donating, we've made it our policy not to recommend specific orgs for donations. We'd hate to point you to the wrong one and to be honest we wouldn't be able to diligently vet them all.
With Klitschko even now suggesting people leave Kyiv for the winter, should foreign volunteers come to Kyiv to work? Or are they an additional burden on the resources?
🥺🫂 It is just beyond my experience what Ukrainian ordinary citizens are having to deal with in their homes ... the closest for me is after Christchurch EQs with water & sewage (& sometimes electricity) out for days, weeks for some, and forever for others, and homes wrecked of course. BUT as we became the "portable toilet capital of the world" there were water tankers brought in to neighbourhoods, and mainly a manageable number of Port-a-loos per remaining residents. In that case the rest of the nation was fine & able to help, unlike Ukraine where most areas have their own issues to deal with caused by the Russian ongoing attacks. The ONLY upside from your story is the sewage being frozen rather than cooked in hot weather of summer 🙀 which would have been an even greater health hazard ...
🤔 I think the time has come for Ukraine missiles & drones to go after civillian infrastructure in big cities - power, water, sewage etc - let Putin cry & scream & call them "war crimes" but seems like fair game after years of Russian destruction in Ukraine.💛💙💪 I only draw the line at deliberate targetting of homes & hospitals & schools etc - but seems that the consequences of the Russian invasion need to come home to the public more, & winter in Russia would be a good time because we know how disruptive losing water, power, sewage etc in freezing weather is now, thanks to Russian "lessons" 🙇
Hi Cindy -- thank you for sharing your experience with us. I know what an earthquake feels like. I also experienced one but it lasted no more than 10 sec. It was enough to scare me in my high-rise so that I holed up in a village for a week though.
What I can tell you about retaliation strikes: I think Ukraine can't afford to be guided by vengeance; we need to be strategic. Many people in Ukraine say the Russians have never placed much value on the lives of their own people, so I suppose hitting civilian infrastructure wouldn't put real pressure on them.
Absolutely agree! Going after Russian infrastructure to ME is not about vengeance - it is about bringing the reality of war home to civilians by making them feel cold over winter, just like the hits on fuel plants are causing shortages of petrol/diesel for citizen's vehicles had in all of a sudden showing that a continued invasion has consequences. I've said before that I believe the war will probably end when the OTHER members of Putin's team find a way to take him out of the equation - preferably in an icy gulag cell with no frills - because THEY are being affected personally via loss of income etc. They can blame Putin for EVERYTHING & withdraw to their own borders without losing face - blame the loss on the loser 🤡 Civillian outrage at having no power and/or water and/or sewage etc in large centres would speed that up IMHO 🤷

The empty words of the head of the current regime in the US are bullshit. He has broken every "agreement" and every "deal" he has ever made.

Is there anything I can do as an individual to provide help for the Ukrainian people with these winter time issues?

Hi David -- I don't know for sure but my guess would be it probably depends a lot on the person and the role?
I feel so helpless; why is this allowed to happen? Russia is a terrorist state, what’s it going to take to put it down?
I think it's happening because the world ignored 2008 in Georgia and 2014 in Crimea so they decided they could do whatever they want.
I wish there was something I could do besides donating money! My heart goes out to you all.
Thank you 🙏
Tough luck with frozen pipes.
Water grows about 10% when it freezes and turns out a pipe doesn't care to stretch.
